J10 - Community Safety Placement

- 1 placement for 2 days in October 2026. Please indicate your preferred dates on the application form.

What you'll do
During your placement, you may:
- Go out with officers on visits to food businesses such as cafés, restaurants, and takeaways to see how we check that food is safe and hygienic for you to eat
- Learn about health and safety in workplaces
- Help with basic office tasks and see how we deal with complaints and enquiries
- Undertake visits with officers to check on how we assess housing conditions, pollution, and environmental protection
- Learn how we respond to anti-social behaviour and community concerns
- Observe how the council works with partners such as police, housing, and support services
- Gain an understanding of crime prevention and public safety initiatives
Important information
- You may visit working environments like kitchens and businesses
- You must follow health and safety rules at all times
- Some tasks involve being on your feet or travelling locally

J09 Registrars – Civil Ceremonies Usher Placement
Location: Cockington Court (Approved Venue), Torquay
Dates available between: Dates: Please indicate your preferred dates on the application form.
Flexible Working Days: Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays
Hours: Between 9am – 5pm (dependent on ceremony schedule) Some flexibility may be required in line with service needs.
What you'll do
This is a fantastic opportunity to gain hands-on experience in a customer-facing role, supporting the delivery of civil ceremonies in a prestigious and busy venue.

What you'll do

- Welcoming and directing guests attending ceremonies
- Assisting with the smooth arrival and organisation of wedding parties
- Supporting Registration staff to ensure ceremonies run on time
- Monitoring access to the ceremony room and maintaining a professional presence
- Providing general assistance and excellent customer service to visitors
What we’re looking for
- Ability to remain calm under pressure in a busy environment
- An interest in events, hospitality, or public service
What you will gain

Location: Town Hall, Torquay

What you’ll do
- Supporting the team by organising Outlook calendars and scheduling meetings
- Sending emails using templates, ensuring all details are completed accurately
- Carrying out data entry and updating information using Microsoft Office packages (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Assisting with general administrative tasks
You will develop workplace skills, build confidence and gain insight into office-based environment
