Holly Badger, Apprentice Regulatory Compliance Officer
Prior to working here, I had never worked in the housing sector before, so I was a little unsure of what to expect, but so far I am really enjoying the role and the work that it involves. The Housing Standards Team have a broad range of knowledge that spans many years and have been incredibly welcoming.
This apprenticeship has opened a new door for me, and I am constantly learning and developing new skills in an interesting working environment.
Every day I’m amazed with the variety of work that I’m doing and the places I visit. No two days are the same. My manager and colleagues have been accommodating in allowing time for my apprenticeship coursework alongside the practical side of the role.
I’d recommend working as an apprentice for Torbay Council to anybody who wishes to learn and develop skills and gain practical experience whilst working in friendly and professional environment.

Daniel Boosey – Coombe Pafford School, November 2025
I am enjoying my work experience at the IT department at Torbay Council. I have learnt lots of new skills such as installing Windows 11, learning how to take a computer apart to find a fault and learning how to take phone calls from council workers who have problems with their computers. Sometimes they need their accounts unlocking and Gareth has taught me how to unlock their accounts for them.
Gareth has been very supportive and has taught me new skills and all the staff their are friendly and helpful.
